Restoration · Trullo Petrarolo

Old stone.
A new chapter.

A considered restoration has transformed two original cones into a comfortable private Trullo, preserving the character of its stone architecture.

Working with the building

The restoration retained the Trullo’s distinctive conical roofs, curved walls and pale stone. The two original cones remain central to the house’s identity.

Large stone paving slabs known as chianche and curved niches preserve the character of the original dwelling, while modern comforts make the house welcoming today.

A considered approach

Restored in the same distinctive style as our sister property, Masseria Petrarolo, the Trullo brings together traditional stone spaces and interiors chosen with care.

A local architect worked with London-based Tully Filmer and Thurstan Design Limited, led by James Waterworth, on the restoration. Their approach brought contemporary comfort to the historic building while respecting its architectural character.

Furniture, textiles and individual objects give each room its own character while allowing the architecture to speak for itself.

A house for living together

The Lunetta and Ciliegeto suites provide two individual en suite bedrooms. Additional mezzanine sleeping space, a welcoming living room and a kitchenette make the Trullo a private home for time together.

Inside and out

The house opens into a courtyard, shaded dining terraces and a private garden, with olive trees, cherries and vineyards beyond. A private swimming pool offers another way to enjoy the countryside setting.

The grounds were landscaped with care for the native planting, keeping the house connected to the olive groves and vineyards around it.

The restoration is best experienced through the changing light, the texture of stone and the flow between rooms and landscape.

Modern comfort within historic stone

Thoughtful details make the old stone comfortable for a stay today. The indoor kitchenette and outdoor kitchen, en suite bathrooms and shaded places to sit bring ease to daily life.

The result is a self-contained traditional residence with its own garden and pool, rooted in the landscape of the Petrarolo estate.
